Moving the blog...

It's come time to upgrade my photo blog to show off bigger, bolder photos in my updates. So I've decided to go the Wordpress route and bought a professional photography template which I customized to go along with my website style. Sorry for the address change, but I think you will like the impressive difference bigger photos make. Hopefully, it will get you coming back for more -- more than ever.

And the address is easy to remember too: fresnophotoblog.com

Have a look and I hope to continue the updates there soon.

Kate the Shew

This is Jocelynn Suarez as the wild child Katherine Minola in a 60's version of William Shakespeare's The Taming of The Shrew put on by the Clovis High School Theatre at the Dan Pessano Black Box Theatre at Clovis North High. I wasn't originally going to photography high school kids for my actors project, but after seeing Jocelynn in this play, I couldn't resist.

Coastal wedding

Last weekend I had the privilege of photographing a wedding for a couple who flew out to the coast from Chicago for their wedding in hopes of nicer weather. Although the weather didn't cooperate and probably ended up being worse than in Chicago, everybody stayed positive and had a great time. I hope to have more from Kristena and Jim's wedding in the coming days.

Not Sammy

My editors saw this guy on TV and thought it was the real Sammy Hagar, who planned to play a free concert at the Fresno Cabo Wabo. So when they came to me asking if I got the shot of Sammy, and I said 'no,' they about spit out their coffee. Turns out this is Dennis Allen, a big fan of Sammy's but definitely not Sammy. I also did a video of the 100s of old-time rocker fans which you can watch here.

Head games

Sports editors get pretty tired of these shots, but I like this one from Sunday's women's soccer game against Idaho at Bulldog Stadium.

The Hmong fight city hall

The Hmong came to City Hall in droves Tuesday to fight the city's decision to move the garden they've farmed in for 13 years. Their efforts paid off when the item was moved back on the agenda. Although there were a lot of hippie types and others out there supporting the Hmong, I felt deeper sympathy through the eyes of the Hmong themselves. These people are honest workers, used to a particular lifestyle that they go on with, asking for nothing in return. All they want is to make use of available land to carry on and provide for their families. Suddenly taking that away is a foreign concept to them - and should be unjust to the rest of us.

Tough shot

This photo ran big on the front of the Fresno Bee Tuesday. It captures young Erik Telen, 7, the son of slain Fresno County sheriff's deputy Erik Telen who was killed in a shooting seven years ago by Ramadan Abdullah. Telen's wife at the time, Shelley, was eight months pregnant with Erik when the shooting happened. It was hard to watch Erik as the eyes watered and the tear rolled down his cheek, but I thought it was a powerful image that summed up the consequence of such a senseless crime. I wrote about the shot in The Bee's new photo blog too.

Bill and Nichole

I tagged along with Mark Janzen last weekend to shoot another wedding for my portfolio. Hopefully. In two weeks I shoot my very own wedding out on the coast. I'm hoping I can do more marketing with the images I get from that one.
